🕰️ Time Rift Timeline Throwdown (20–30 min)
Objective
Students collaboratively build a timeline using Champion and Artifact cards, reinforcing chronological reasoning and historical context.
Materials
- Time Rift Champion and Artifact cards (printed or digital)
- Timeline strip (wall, whiteboard, or paper)
- Sticky notes or magnets
Instructions
1. Warm-Up (5 min)
- Ask quick comparison questions:
- “Who came first—Spartacus or Julius Caesar?”
- “Musashi or the Viking longboat?”
- Let students guess and explain reasoning.
2. Card Drop (10–15 min)
- Distribute 1–2 cards per student or group.
- Students research or infer the time period.
- Place cards on the timeline.
- Justify placement in 1–2 sentences.
3. Timeline Showdown (5–10 min)
- Review the timeline as a class.
- Challenge questionable placements.
- Confirm dates using bios or QR-linked entries.
- Spark discussion about historical context.
4. Wrap-Up (5 min)
- Reflect: “Which Champion surprised you most? Which artifact was hardest to place?”
- Optional: Assign a “Time Rift Champion of the Day” by vote.
Extension
- Turn into a game: points for correct placements, clever justifications, or linking Champions to artifacts (“Who would wield the khutga knife?”).
Assessment
- Formative: Observe reasoning during placement and discussion.
- Summative: Exit slip — students write one card they placed, why, and one surprising insight.
