🧭 Time Rift The Scholar’s Hunt

Objective

Students will research the historical context of a Time Rift card and deliver a brief presentation that highlights its significance, origin, and connection to broader historical themes.

Duration

30–45 minutes total

  • Research: 20–25 minutes
  • Presentations: 10–15 minutes (1–2 minutes per student or team)

Materials

  • Time Rift cards (Champions, Artifacts, Events)
  • Access to internet or classroom resources
  • Presentation materials (optional: index cards, slides, posters)

Procedure

1. Card Assignment (5 min)

  • Each student (or pair) receives one Time Rift card.
  • Cards may be randomly distributed or selected from a curated set.

2. Research Phase (20–25 min)

Students investigate:

  • Approximate date or era
  • Region or culture of origin
  • Historical significance or use
  • One surprising or lesser-known fact
  • Optional: how this card might interact with others in gameplay or history

3. Presentation Phase (10–15 min)

Each student gives a short (1–2 minute) presentation:

  • Introduce the card
  • Share key findings
  • Explain why it’s historically interesting or relevant
  • Optional: pose a question to the class (e.g., “What other cultures used similar tools?”)

Formative Assessment

  • Observe research process and note engagement
  • Use a checklist: 
    • Did the student identify time and place?
    • Did they explain significance?
    • Did they share a unique insight or question?

Summative Assessment

  • Students submit a short written summary (3–5 sentences) of their card’s history and relevance
  • Optional rubric: 
    • Accuracy of historical info
    • Clarity of presentation
    • Depth of insight or connection
